In the 9-1-1 universe, there is still room for the characters from 9-1-1: Lone Star. Rashad Raisani, co-creator and showrunner of 9-1-1: Nashville, revealed in an interview with TVLine that the second season of the franchise’s latest spin-off will feature several crossovers, including the return of characters from the beloved Austin-based spin-off, which concluded last year after five seasons.

It will start right away. The second episode of the new season (premiering in the United States on ABC on October 15) will feature the star of the parent series, Oliver Stark, whose Evan Buckley will appear in a FaceTime call while the protagonists confront a grave emergency. “Our characters think: ‘We can’t even imagine that what’s happening is real,’ and then someone says: ‘You know, Buck had told us about this problem they were having,'” Raisani teased. “So it’s a funny element: the 118 team helps us to solve a problem.”
But what kind of unprecedented emergency could ever require Buck’s intervention? The showrunner added that the new main antagonist of the series will terrorize Nashville with crimes inspired by biblical plagues, even speaking of a kind of “swarm.” This, as the season poster also suggests, brings to mind the “bee-nado,” the swarm of bees that tested the 9-1-1 protagonists at the start of the eighth season.
“We also want to pull off another big crossover,” he continued. “From day one I said I wanted to involve some characters from Lone Star, and we are seriously pursuing it. I believe it will be a truly exceptional crossover, planned around the eighth or ninth episode.” Raisani has a close rapport with the stars of the series, having served as showrunner before 9-1-1: Nashville.
