This will be a Venice Film Festival that is particularly political. This was stated clearly by Alberto Barbera, describing the official selection, and it is also confirmed by Beatrice Fiorentino, the general delegate of the Critics’ Week. With her we spoke about a program of the collateral selection, traditionally devoted to debut works, combative and capable of “imagining the future, but at the same time resisting the present“. From Colombia to Brazil, from India to China, including Italy and Tunisia, “the new SIC selection explores the present through directors destined to shape tomorrow’s cinema thanks to new forms of storytelling”.
Seven debuts from four continents tell of a world in transformation, between bodies, memory, technology and new forms of freedom that challenge the conventions of contemporary cinema. Completing the program are the Out of Competition titles, The Great Jaffa by Marco Santi and Rider by Roan Johnson and
Davide Pavanello.
