A Courteney Cox Habit Behind Friends’ Success That Isn’t for Every Star

Courteney Cox is an actress who has been tied to a string of successful ventures across both cinema and television. For television fans, she will forever be recognized as the driven Monica Geller from Friends, a role she inhabited for ten seasons, or as the lead in Cougar Town. For others, it’s hard not to connect her with the triumph of the Scream horror franchise, where she has remained a constant presence from the 1996 original through the most recent entry anticipated for 2026. Reflecting on her involvement in long-running projects, the actress has acknowledged that all of this has subsequently shaped her creativity.

Courteney Cox has no problem committing to a project for a long time: “If something I like, I want it to last”

Courteney Cox isn’t opposed to the idea of working on endeavors that demand a long commitment: this is evident from her track record, including Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004, and Cougar Town (a sitcom that ran from 2009 to 2015), as well as the Scream franchise where she has portrayed the fearless Gale Weathers since the first film. “I shot seven Scream movies, appeared in ten seasons of Friends, and spent six years on Cougar Town. I really like things that endure. If I like something, I want it to last,” she revealed to People.

Moreover, her latest project, a film titled Evil Genius, which marks her directorial debut, took many years to come together: “It was really tough. There was a lockdown, two different strikes. I worked on it for eight years, amidst all of that. And I couldn’t give up, I had to make it work. I couldn’t let it go. I fought hard to overcome all those obstacles.”

In the film’s cast are not only Patricia Arquette and David Harbour, but also her daughter Coco, born from the marriage to ex-husband David Arquette. “Coco has a small role in Evil Genius, but she is a genuinely talented actress. She takes the work very seriously. She studied at the William Esper Studio. I can’t wait to direct her when I can devote more time to her.”
