Can you laugh at a funeral? Absolutely, as life itself and many stories capable of catching irony even in the most dramatic moments demonstrate. This is illustrated by the new comedy from Massimiliano Bruno, based on the 2007 British classic directed by Frank Oz and written by Dean Craig, Death at a Funeral, adapted by the director together with Edoardo Falcone. A Quiet Family Funeral will arrive in cinemas on October 29 through 01 Distribution, after its presentation at the Rome Film Festival as the closing film.
Joining Claudia Pandolfi and Pietro Sermonti in the cast are Diego Abatantuono, Stefania Sandrelli, Stefano Fresi, Beatrice Arnera, Edoardo Ferrario, Alessandro Mauthe, Giulia Vecchio, Dino Abbrescia, Carlo Buccirosso, Carlo Amleto, and Giovanni Iovino.
The film narrates the day of the funeral of the patriarch of the Mancuso family, when his two children Daria (Claudia Pandolfi) and Riccardo (Pietro Sermonti) confront long-suppressed resentments and unshed secrets. What ought to be a solemn farewell ceremony instead turns into a series of surprising revelations and grotesque misunderstandings.
