Fresh from the drama The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd (these days at the Rome Film Festival), Amanda Seyfried was a guest at the Hamptons International Film Festival, where in a session moderated by Alec Baldwin she explained some of her views on her career. Although in the past she had taken on relatively provocative films such as Jennifer’s Body and Lovelace, she has now dropped that kind of role from her commitments: at forty she has lost the necessary ease.
Amanda Seyfried now excludes roles that require sex scenes
Amanda Seyfried, recently buoyed by the success of A Family Man, where she shared the screen with a sexy presence like Sydney Sweeney, at forty no longer intends to portray explicit scenes. She explains: “I recently turned down a series in which I would have to have sex all the time, precisely because of the issue of sex. It doesn’t matter who you do it with on screen, I simply don’t want to do it. I’m uncomfortable. At this moment I don’t feel up to it. […] Now I have children who are careful about what I do. […] Our jobs are strange. As I age, some things start to sound odder, like playing romantic leads with people with whom we have no real relationship. […] Sometimes it works really well, other times it feels very awkward. I can’t believe I used to say back then: ‘Oh, I have to kiss! Great, hot. I know how to kiss!‘ It was fun, I didn’t even think about it. I would tell myself: ‘I have to kiss a hot guy today… and they pay me!‘ Perhaps if the right project of this kind came along later, perhaps at another moment in my life. Right now I don’t feel like facing the idea of being naked in front of a stranger.”
