Amanda Seyfried Reveals Why She Turned Down the Role of Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy

She almost had it all with that role. For a long time it has been known that Amanda Seyfried was considered for the part of Gamora, one of the central characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Instead, the actress turned down the role and allowed Zoe Saldaña to take it, opening the door for her to become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actresses today.

Recently Seyfried had the opportunity to be interviewed by SAG-AFTRA to review her career in full, with its highs and lows. The retrospective has taken her through many pivotal moments in her decades in cinema, but there is one moment in particular that deserves a closer look. It concerns when she looks back at 2014 and the rejection of the Gamora role, which although she acknowledges she was mistaken about her future, she does not regret the decision she made at the time.

Amanda Seyfried admits she was wrong about turning down the opportunity to work on ‘Guardianes de la Galaxia’

No Regrets

In the interview, Seyfried pauses to think about Gamora and opens up about it. “I think rejecting ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ seemed too obvious at the time. I thought: ‘This isn’t going to work. The tree and the raccoon talk to each other. And besides, everyone is in space’. And I told myself: ‘This will ruin my career if it goes wrong. And there are many chances that it will go wrong’. That is, it’s clear I was wrong“, she concedes in the end.

That hasn’t stopped her from standing by that decision. “I still have no regrets about that decision. I took it for myself. I took it for the family I knew I wanted to have. And it’s that I don’t want to spend all my time in the makeup trailer. Anyway, I can’t stay still. I don’t like action scenes, nor heights, nor having to pretend in front of everyone. I need something steady to cling to”.

No cambiaría nada

The arc of Seyfried’s career could have reached even higher heights had she chosen to become Thanos’s daughter, but she didn’t need that to become a successful actress. Nor would we have wanted it any other way: she has always made clear that she doesn’t want to push beyond her limits, as she made clear a few weeks ago about performing sex scenes.
