Fans of Obsession — and given the sky-high worldwide box office, there were quite a few — are waiting for Curry Barker’s first feature to get a follow-up, which has long been known and is titled Anything But Ghosts (literally everything but ghosts). The screenplay was written by Barker together with his longtime friend and collaborator, Cooper Tomlinson. The two will also star as two self-styled ghost hunters who encounter real specters while carrying out their fraudulent duties. Here they are together in the social video teaser announcing the film’s international release, set for May 7, 2027.

Anything But Ghosts: What We Know So Far
From several interviews Curry Barker has given about Anything But Ghosts, we learn that it is very different from Obsession, because the premise itself lends itself more to comedy, given that the central figures are two con artist ghost hunters. It’s Barker and Cooper Tomlinson doing what they usually do, so there is humor but still set within a world that feels quite realistic. The story centers on ghosts that truly exist in a universe where ghosts are not real. As with Obsession, it is a wish that backfires on the one who expresses it, in a film where magic does not exist or in a world where magic does not exist. This is precisely the direction I’m aiming for.
To be honest, these so‑called explanations leave us intentionally perplexed. In any case, alongside Cooper and Tomlinson are well-known actors such as Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Reinacher, and Violet McGraw, and the film is said to inhabit the same universe as Obsession, with direct references to what happens to Nikki. That much is claimed, and to verify it we’ll have to wait a few more months.
