The wait for the day of reckoning is growing shorter. Marvel Studios is already executing its plan for the arrival of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ this very year, and the first stop before the big day is for us to revisit the best of the cinematic universe. That means rewatching the iconic fourth installment of the saga that wrapped up a story that had been developing for an entire decade.
If you haven’t done the rewatch yet, you’re in luck. It’s been a few months since Disney announced the rerelease of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in theaters with an extended version, but now we finally have something tangible. The trailer for the revamped version of the film has already hit the internet, delivering a barrage of nostalgia with the movie’s best moments and what made the audience feel alive back in 2019.
Extended Version
The final title for this new version of the film will be ‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’, and it will preserve the essence of the original with its nearly three-hour runtime unchanged. The new footage will be located at the end of the movie, though officially what will be added remains a mystery. According to the Russo brothers themselves, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, it will serve as a bridge to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
Nor will we have to wait long to see it in theaters either. The classic will return to the box office next September 25, 2026, and to delight fans, it will be shown in IMAX and Infinity Vision screens. Marvel always has a special place for these occasions, and it’s best to take advantage of the time such screens are available because in December they’ll have to compete for them with ‘Dune 3’.
Path to Doomsday
Marvel Studios’ plan for the rest of Phase 6 is well defined. On December 18 comes ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and a year later the story will conclude with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. We have little information about the latter, but Doomsday will serve to reunite us with our old favorite heroes such as Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo.
If they manage to nail the landing, this could be a fantastic year for the studio, which has already achieved a clean sweep in recent weeks with the runaway success of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. Furthermore, the Endgame rerelease could help lift the film to the top position among the highest-grossing feature films of all time.
