12 12 12: The Plot of the New TV Series
While the acclaimed Spanish series explored rebellion against the system and the power of money, 12 12 12 veers in a very different direction yet still centers on a heist that becomes far more than a simple criminal act. Created by Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble (Silent Witness), the eight-episode series unfolds across three distinct timelines tied to a bold and spectacular assault on a bank vault tucked away in the depths of Zurich’s streets: the 12 months of preparation, the 12 hours of the heist, and the 12 days following the theft. An embattled FBI agent (Mackie) and an American professional criminal (Dornan) square off in a tense cat-and-mouse game across several European cities.
Apple TV explains that the story isn’t solely about whether the heist will succeed, but also about tracking the moves of the protagonists and the consequences of their choices. The cast also includes Jack Kesy (Task), Agathe Rousselle, Sallie Harmsen (Blade Runner 2049), José Garcia (The Head Hunter) and True Detective star Kali Reis. BAFTA-winning Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale) directs several episodes, including the premiere.
