Bart Simpson’s Voice Actress Says The Simpsons Won’t Have Much Time Left

We always think that lasting things will never end. ‘The Simpsons’ has been on the air for so many years that it’s hard to imagine the day we turn on the television and, simply, they’re not there anymore. No matter that we might not like some of their new episodes or think they’re no longer in style, it’s an eternal series. But perhaps the end is near, more than we think.

That’s what the kind-hearted Nancy Cartwright believes, the actress who voices Bart Simpson for more than 35 years. And if it’s up to her, she’s putting a final date on the series: she thinks it will end around the fortieth season. In other words, when The Simpsons turn 40, they’ll be ready to bid farewell to their audience and shut the TV off for good. The actress has refused to give more details about why she’s so sure and where that determination comes from.

Forty Years in the Business

It’s worth noting that, on paper, what Cartwright says is only her opinion. She shared it on the Inside of You podcast, where she was interviewed by Michael Rosenbaum about his 37 years as the quintessential rebellious kid. She is by no means closing the door to the idea of continuing to work beyond season 40, although she sees it as unlikely to happen because, simply, the entire cast is aging a lot. In fact, she would be delighted to keep working on the series.

It’s worth mentioning a detail Cartwright doesn’t highlight on the podcast, and that is that the series is currently renewed through that fortieth season. Last year Fox signed for four more years of ‘The Simpsons’ and, at minimum, we’ll have Homer and the gang’s adventures for as long as the actress emphasizes. But after that? Who knows what will happen. Perhaps she knows something behind the scenes that the general public doesn’t know, and if that’s the case we’ll have to brace ourselves mentally.

Beyond Television

Perhaps The Simpsons will end soon, but if that is the case what we have to do is enjoy the present moment with our trusted family. Not only with the series, but with all the extended material they have, including appearances in video games and alternate stories. The most interesting of all is their second feature film, ‘The Simpsons Movie 2’, which plans its release in cinemas for the coming year 2027.
