Baywatch is about to return with a new generation of lifeguards, high-stakes rescues, and the iconic red swimsuits that have defined television history. FOX released the official trailer for the reboot of the renowned series, arriving in January in the United States, with Arrow star Stephen Amell in the role of Hobie Buchannon and several familiar faces ready to reprise their parts. Between nostalgia, new characters, and slow-motion beach chases, the comeback of Baywatch won’t keep fans waiting for long, not even in Italy. The series will debut soon on Prime Video, before eventually arriving on Rai 2 as well, thanks to a very recent agreement that provides for a second broadcast window.
Baywatch: the plot and cast of the new TV series
Created by the same Matt Nix of Duro a morire, the new Baywatch honors the franchise’s enduring legacy while updating it for today’s audience. The series brings back adrenaline-fueled rescues, complicated relationships, the strong chemistry among the characters, and the beach feats that characterized the original, but with an entirely new cast, a modern setting, and fresh tensions and challenges. At its core is a renewed mission: to protect the Southern California coastline. Hobie, the son of the legendary Mitch, has become the captain of the lifeguards. His life is upended when the daughter he never knew, Charlie (Jessica Belkin), arrives at his door, determined to follow in the family footsteps and enter the Baywatch world.
The group around Hobie includes Nat (Hassie Harrison), his right-hand and best friend; Luke (Noah Beck), a freshman who, raised in a firefighter family, chose the beach over the firehouse; the enthusiastic Grace (Livvy Dunne); Brad (Thaddeus LaGrone), a fearless and incredibly strong young man who served in an elite Marine division; and Trina (Shay Mitchell), a former attorney who left a promising career to devote herself full-time to beach rescues. Joining them is Selene (Brooks Nader), Zuma Beach’s lifeguard captain, who often collaborates with Hobie and shares a competitive dynamic with him.
At present, four actors from the original Baywatch cast have signed to reprise their iconic roles. David Chokachi will reprise his role as Cody Madison, now a full-time member at Shoreline, a Baywatch bar-and-grill. Erika Eleniak will appear as a guest star in the role of Shauni McClain, who has become a Santa Monica city councilor. Michael Bergin and Kelly Packard, meanwhile, will again portray Jack ‘J.D.’ Darius and April Giminski, who were part of Hobie’s rookie crew and have been close friends since those days.
