Holly Marie Combs is a name well known especially to television audiences who appreciated Charmed: in the popular fantasy TV series, she portrayed for eight seasons the wise Piper Halliwell, a witch of the Power of Three who shared numerous adventures with her magical sisters. After her stint on Charmed, the actress appeared in other TV series such as Pretty Little Liars, but in recent years she has kept her distance from Hollywood and recently explained the why.

Why don’t we see Holly Marie Combs around anymore? The star of Charmed offered an answer by sharing with her fans the reasons that pushed her to step away from Hollywood. During an episode of her rewatch podcast titled The House of Halliwell, the actress explained: “We were a large family. During Covid, we had three teenagers, or rather two teenagers and a pre-adolescent in the house, so it was real chaos.”
Beyond the family, Holly Marie Combs admitted that the offers she received didn’t pierce her heart either. “The proposals that came across my desk didn’t make me say, ‘Oh my God, this is really fantastic. I absolutely have to do it.’ And, you know, in the age range of forty to fifty, the pool of candidates keeps shrinking. And I have the sense that roles become a little less interesting.” It seems, therefore, that the main reason concerns mainly the lack of interest in the roles offered in recent years. While she stated that the entertainment industry “isn’t as discriminatory toward older people as it once was,” she admitted that none of the proposals she received emotionally engaged her.
Diverse colleagues have tried to convince her to return to the screen, but the actress currently appears to be satisfied with her life, juggling diverse activities including a barbecue restaurant. At the same time she does not rule out the possibility of returning to acting someday: “Sometimes I miss it because, as you said, there are those moments when you’re involved, you perform and work, which are simply, I think, like being present. This is what escapism means. We can retreat into a different character, into a series of circumstances different from our life. And there’s something deeply peaceful about being in that moment, even when you’re doing something very dramatic.” The family, in any case, takes precedence over everything else, since her children are still school-aged. Once the last one has also graduated, she does not rule out a return to the screen: “I’ll have a lot more free time at my disposal,” she confessed.
