Ben Affleck Admits ‘Justice League’ Was the Low Point of His Career

It turns out he wasn’t a fan of superheroes all this time. Ben Affleck has opened up about his tenure at Warner Bros. as Zack Snyder’s Batman, and what he has had to say stings a bit. He does not look back on that era with particular fondness, especially regarding ‘Justice League’: amid the negativity, the studio’s moves, and changes in production, he regards it as one of the lowest points of his film career.

The chance to reflect on his work came with the new episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, which he joined for the release of ‘Animals’, his latest film. There, he reflected on some of his best projects like ‘Gone Girl’, but also on the dark stretch of the DC Comics crossover’s production. Not due to anything he could influence, but because of the atmosphere that swirled around the movie.

Blaming Others

Affleck is blunt: the feature was “doomed to failure” as soon as Snyder left the project. “The truth is that the experience of ‘Justice League’ was very, very negative for a lot of different reasons. Some had to do with my personal situation, others with the tragedy that happened at that time, and also with the fact that I really saw how you shouldn’t approach making a movie like that when the studio is at odds with the director,” the actor reflects.

He doesn’t hold back from blaming Joss Whedon for the outcome: “Him taking over the film and the reshoots he did… If you want to know the low point of my career, there it is.” In fact, he doesn’t stop there: he accuses that the situation Snyder faced was used to strip him of control over the film. “The way it, I personally believe, was used as an excuse… It’s one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in my life.”
