Black Doves: What to Expect in Season 2
In the second season of Black Doves, the situation will escalate when Reed (Sarah Lancashire), Helen’s supervisor within the organization, disappears suddenly. According to Joe Barton, the creator of the series, Helen will find herself in a particularly vulnerable position: she has reached a very high level within the world of espionage, but at that very moment she will lose the person who had been her principal point of reference. The new season thus promises to delve into the conflict between Helen’s family life and her secret identity, while a new conspiracy threatens to challenge everything she has built. Even the relationship with Wallace (Andrew Buchan) could become more complicated, especially because the husband’s suspicions about his wife’s lies and past will not be completely laid to rest.
Meanwhile, the new season will also follow Sam Young (Ben Whishaw), Helen’s best friend and, once, a top-level assassin. Sam will find himself in a particularly difficult phase of his life: he is entangled in legal troubles, spends his days alone in Soho bars, and takes on low-profile assignments. His situation is also tied to a mysterious agreement with a man who will help him get out of prison, but who, in exchange, seems to want something from him. Sam had already paid a high personal price to protect Helen: in the previous season he killed London’s crime boss Alex Clark and his son Trent, leaving behind Michael, the man he loved. Although their paths seem to have diverged, Helen and Sam will end up involved again in the same affair. Reed’s disappearance will, in fact, be connected to a plot against the Black Doves and will push the two friends to collaborate once more to discover the truth. Their relationship will remain at the center of the series, as trust, loyalty, and betrayals become essential elements of the new story. A search for the truth by them that, according to Tudum, could have grave consequences for both of them and for the people they are trying to protect.
