While details cannot be fully disclosed, the actress spoke of a particular scene that calls for the use of a strange gelatinous substance for a key scene of the season.

Apparently the first, major scene shot in the company of Michelle Yeoh left a mark. Recalling that moment, Hunter Schafer could not help but laugh: “It was a crazy day,” she revealed to Entertainment Weekly. The reason is intriguing: Schafer plays a human who pretends to be a Replicant, while Michelle Yeoh plays a Replicant herself and proves to be unapologetic and fearless. The initial scene filmed together featured an interrogation by Olwen, Yeoh’s Replicant. “They put me through the wringer. I was strapped to a platform, flipped over, sprayed with a tube, and covered in this strange gelatinous substance that cures replicants. The amount of substances I came into contact with was, to say the least, ridiculous. Michelle’s character is so stoic and scary in that scene. Michelle had a lot of fun playing that threatening role.”
Michelle Yeoh also holds a fond memory of that moment: “I love how that scene turned out. What I like about Olwen is that you never know when she’s angry with you or when she’s just looking at you with curiosity. And it’s more frightening. It’s much more menacing. I would move toward her, almost caress her, and wipe away all that sticky stuff from her face and body. And it’s scarier when someone does that to you, because you know they could kill you if they were discovered. So I adore that scene with her.”
The tension between Replicants and humans is the heart of Blade Runner 2099, depicting a post-revolt world in which machines now govern everything and humans must serve them. “The series continues to pose the same questions that the original and Blade Runner 2049 raised, while delving deeper into the relationship between humans and machines and where these boundaries become blurred. So it certainly preserves the core inquiries that Blade Runner raises, while flipping some of the concepts we were used to.” But, in this particular case, the most important aspect of Blade Runner 2099 for the actress is the bond between Cora and Olwen: “I think ultimately it’s about the relationship between Cora and Olwen. At least, for me, this is the beating heart of this story,” she concluded.
