Dear readers, prepare yourselves for a brand-new romantic story waiting to be discovered. Netflix and Shondaland have officially greenlit a new prequel miniseries set in the Bridgerton universe and long requested by fans for quite some time. This time, in fact, it will be Lady Violet’s turn and the great love that forever changed her life.
Bridgerton: A Miniseries About Lady Violet — What We Know
The new production will therefore be a prequel dedicated to the future Viscountess Bridgerton and her love story with Edmund Bridgerton, the husband and father of the eight children whom the audience has come to know in the main series. The project, still without an official title, will follow Violet’s early years and her meeting with the future husband. It is a story that fans know only through the tales and memories scattered throughout the main series, but which can now be explored more deeply. At the center will be the relationship between the two young people, before Violet became the matriarch of the large Bridgerton family. The format should resemble what was already used for The Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the miniseries that focused on the story of a young Queen Charlotte.
The Great Love Between Violet and Edmund
The new series will primarily allow us to get to know a character who, despite his importance in the Bridgerton family history, has remained almost entirely off the screen so far: Edmund Bridgerton. The viscount is, in fact, Violet’s husband and the father of the eight Bridgerton siblings. Their marriage and their relationship are among the fundamental elements of the family’s past, but the main series has only told fragments of their story. The prequel will thus be able to show Violet before her noble title, widowhood, and the role of an impeccable mother to a large brood, focusing on the woman she was before becoming the matriarch of the Bridgertons.
Shonda Rhimes Returns to Lead the Project
Once again, the new project will be overseen by Shonda Rhimes in person, one of the central creative figures in the Bridgerton universe. She will serve as screenwriter, showrunner, and executive producer alongside Nicholas Nardini, who previously produced The Queen Charlotte and wrote for Scandal. Joining them will be Tom Verica, a long-time Rhimes collaborator and director who has already worked on both Bridgerton and The Queen Charlotte. Verica will serve as director and executive producer, while Betsy Beers will once again assume the role of executive producer.
The Cast: Who Will Play Young Violet?
At the moment, Netflix has not announced the cast for the new series. Therefore, we do not know who will portray a young Violet. In the original series, Lady Violet Bridgerton is portrayed by Ruth Gemmell. A teenage version of the character appeared in The Queen Charlotte played by Connie Jenkins-Greig, but there is no confirmation that this actress will reprise the role. Likewise, it is not known whether other actors seen in the two preceding series will appear in the new one.
Bridgerton Doesn’t Stop: Fifth Season in Production
The announcement comes as production on the fifth season of Bridgerton is underway in London. The new chapter of the main series will center on Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and her relationship with Michaela Stirling, played by . A sixth season has also been confirmed last May.
