Following Adam and the notable The Blue Kaftan, the Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani returns to cinema with a new project: it will indeed be in theaters from September 17 with her latest film, Calle Malaga, distributed by Movies Inspired about about a year after its premiere in the Horizons section of the Venice Film Festival 2025, where it earned the audience award. The film stars the celebrated Spanish actress Carmen Maura, who here plays a woman who, deeply rooted in her origins, in her identity and in belonging, rediscovers passion when she least expects it. This is the official plot:
Maria Angeles, a 79-year-old Spanish woman, lives alone in Tangier, Morocco, enjoying her daily routine. However, her life is upended when her daughter arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment where she has always lived. Determined to stay, she does everything possible to reclaim her home and her belongings, and, unexpectedly, rediscovers love and sensuality.
“Calle Malaga is born from the deep need to reconnect with my memories, to explore them and bring them back to life. I believe that what we create is the echo of the traces that life leaves inside us”, declared Maryam Touzani, who serves as director and screenwriter for the film. Below is the official Italian trailer for Calle Malaga.
