The return that inspires fear, perfect for the Halloween season. Prime Video has released the official trailer for Carrie, its highly anticipated new horror limited series based on the cult novel of the same name by Stephen King, adapted in this case by another master of the genre, Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher).
Carrie: The Plot and the Miniseries Cast
Available to stream with all eight episodes from October 7, Carrie follows the story of Carrie White (portrayed by Summer Howell), a marginalized adolescent who has spent her entire life confined within the walls of her home alongside her mother Margaret (Samantha Sloyan, The Pitt), who is intensely protective of her. After the sudden and premature death of her father, Carrie is thrust into the ruthless ecosystem of a public high school, where she must face the media uproar triggered by a bullying incident that devastates her community, the constant pressure and the indiscriminate cruelty of the social media era, as well as the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that emerge over the course of her adolescence.
The miniseries, described by Prime Video as a “compelling and contemporary reimagining of Stephen King’s iconic novel,” expands and deepens the original material, “adding nuance to the characters and their dynamics, and following the small daily choices that will lead them to a single, shocking night, in a gripping and deeply human tale about the clash between kindness and cruelty, which will leave the viewer wondering whether they are witnessing the birth of a heroine, a monster, or something far more complex.”
The rest of the cast includes Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as Sue Snell, a popular student who feels remorse for bullying Carrie; Alison Thornton (Fire Country) as Chris Hargensen, the leader of the group of girls who targeted the protagonist; Joel Oulette (One Splendid Mistake) as Tommy Ross, Sue’s boyfriend who agrees to take Carrie to the dance; Josie Tota (The Buccaneers) as Tina Blake, Chris’s best friend and accomplice in a prank on Carrie during the dance; Thalia Dudek (The Running Man) as Emaline; Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) as Billy Nolan, Chris’s delinquent fiancé; Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Rita Desjardin, Carrie’s gym teacher who defends her from the bullies; and Matthew Lillard (Daredevil: Born Again) as Henry Grayle, the principal of Thomas Ewen Consolidated High School. Guest stars also noted include Michael Trucco (Fire Country), Crystal Balint (The Fall of the House of Usher), Kate Siegel (The Haunting of Hill House), Rahul Kohli (The Summer of Lost Secrets), Tim Bagley (The Comeback) and Heather Graham (The White Lotus).
