Carrie: The Dark Tower Reference That Almost No One Has Noticed

Mike Flanagan is a devoted fan of Stephen King. Even before taking on Carrie for Prime Video, the director adapted for the big screen Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, and soon he will present a remake of The Mist. Additionally, fans have long awaited the creation of a new TV series based on The Dark Tower, drawn from a series of novels once again authored by Stephen King and which have already captured the attention of the entertainment world. Flanagan has admitted that the project is still active and that, hopefully, it will take shape soon, but in the meantime he has offered curious audiences a new television adventure: and it is precisely in Carrie that a very subtle easter egg about The Dark Tower would be hidden, which perhaps only the die-hard Stephen King fans could easily spot.

Carrie and that subtle easter egg about The Dark Tower present in the first episode that you may have missed

The Dark Tower is a vast literary work that actually connects to other Stephen King stories, so we shouldn’t be surprised by the potential easter egg inserted by Mike Flanagan in Carrie. The miniseries distributed on Prime Video is adapted from the eponymous novel by the King of Horror and tells of a teenage girl, Carrie, who lived in isolation until her father’s sudden death, which then forced Carrie and her mother to make significant changes to their lifestyle. Carrie was sent to school with other kids her age and found herself thrust into a difficult environment to digest, constantly targeted, mocked by her peers.

But where exactly is the easter egg located? As SlashFilm reports, the clue is in the first episode, precisely in the opening scene that shows Carrie’s father working on a construction site shortly before dying under mysterious circumstances. In the background of the shot, a sign appears indicating that the site is a project of LaMerk Industries, which in The Dark Tower is a metallurgical company allied with the Crimson King in his mission to bring down the Tower. In the novels, this company mainly fabricates robots, whereas in Carrie it has set up a construction site for real estate development where, indeed, Carrie’s father works.

Considering that Mike Flanagan is working on a TV series about The Dark Tower, it is possible that he used Carrie as a launching pad to build his television universe dedicated to King’s works.
