Glen Powell is not only the lead of Chad Powers, but also the co-creator, a title he shares with Michael Waldron. Together they have carried forward not one, but two seasons of the sports TV series distributed in Italy on Disney+, and in a recent interview the co-creator has finally revealed the fate of Russ Holliday. How long will we see him on screen?
Chad Powers, how far will the sports TV series push it? The answer comes from the co-creator
A former college football star, Russ Holliday emerges from a string of scandals that have harmed his career, sidelining him from the sports world. Later, he decides to reinvent himself as Chad Powers, a talented football player who quickly makes his way onto a new college team. Keeping that façade up, however, is far from easy, and the situation cannot help but become more complicated.
The comedy first entertained audiences in 2025 with a first season, followed by a second season starting September 3, 2026. And, apparently, the third will also be the last. It was Michael Waldron himself who shared more about the former college quarterback trying to get back on the field. In an interview with TV Insider, he emphasized: “We have an idea of where we might go. I believe three seasons are probably the maximum you can do with this premise, but who knows? Maybe we continue, maybe we try to reach 15 or 20 seasons. It seems the show is very popular with the audience, so perhaps we’ll try to extend it. I know some cast members would really like that.”
Yet his stance is clear: “No, I think three seasons have always been the plan that Glen and I have had and the series has always been designed to unfold over the course of one college football season. So, if we’re lucky enough to make another one, I imagine we would dive in creatively headfirst and that would be our approach.” Waldron does not rule out a fourth season, but he reiterated that Chad Powers was conceived from the outset to last three seasons. Indeed, regarding a hypothetical fourth season, when asked if he could adopt a darker tone, his response was: “We’ve talked about it a lot in the writers’ room… I don’t know. The odds are really against our heroes. So, I’d be excited to figure out how we should feel at the end of all this.”
