Chase Stokes played John B in Outer Banks, and after five seasons, that journey came to a close on Netflix. However, bidding farewell to that experience definitively brought turbulence to the actor’s private life, as he revealed that he suffered health problems shortly after filming wrapped.
Chase Stokes talks about health problems discovered after the end of Outer Banks
Chase Stokes said goodbye to Outer Banks while dealing with yet another setback. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor shared reflections on the years spent in close contact with his character. “I played John B more often than I played Chase. At 33, portraying a 19- or 20-year-old who has always been who he is, I needed to rediscover myself.”
He then turned to a doctor to assess the state of his body: “I had a lot of issues. I left that TV show… and my liver and kidneys were failing. I had so many health problems to resolve and my brain was completely out of whack. It was a really important moment for me to regain my stability, instead of just returning to work and masking everything.” He didn’t want to rush things and took time to take care of his body, undergoing blood tests every two weeks and sessions of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). He said his testosterone level was “alarmingly low” for his age. “It was hard work getting back to normal levels, and it was definitely scary for a while.”
As he told The Hollywood Reporter, in the last month he has managed to feel like himself again by sticking with the therapy, and he did not want to start the next chapter of his career until he had sorted this aspect out: “In hindsight it’s easy to say, but probably, unfortunately, I wouldn’t have stayed around much longer if I hadn’t taken care of my body, which is a truly staggering thought.” He added: “Unfortunately, we’ve seen great people leave this world too early for having continued to live without rest, and I still have a lot to live for. I have many things I want to do and many things I want to achieve.” Now it seems that everything is going well: “I feel amazing for the first time in a long time.”
