James Reece’s journey isn’t finished yet, but his future might take an unexpected turn. Chris Pratt will return to portray the former Navy SEAL in Savage Son, a new project based on Jack Carr’s third novel in the Terminal List literary saga. The news, reported by Variety, confirms the actor’s return but leaves one question open: will it be a third season of the series or a standalone spin-off? Everything suggests that, in any case, significant changes lie ahead for the franchise’s future.
Savage Son, a new mission for James Reece
According to early rumors, a spin-off seems to be the most likely option at the moment. It remains unclear whether it would effectively replace a third season of The Terminal List or accompany it. The plot, in any case, promises to thrust the protagonist into his most personal and dangerous mission yet. After undergoing brain surgery, James Reece tries to rebuild his life alongside journalist Katie Buranek, played by Constance Wu, and his old ally Raife Hastings, portrayed by Tom Hopper. The situation spirals when his secret identity is compromised and a former CIA operative who has switched to the Russian mafia begins to hunt him. To stop his enemies, Reece will be forced to assemble a team and return to action. Savage Son is described as a fast-paced military thriller that will fuse action, espionage and survival in the wilderness. An adventure that will once again push the lead character to the limit, exploring the ever-narrowing boundary between civilization and the instinct to survive.
Is The Terminal List’s Future Already Written?
The arrival of Savage Son is not entirely unexpected. Even before the second season’s debut, showrunner David DiGilio had spoken of an ambitious ten-year plan for The Terminal List universe, with James Reece destined to remain the franchise’s reference point. In an interview with Screen Rant, DiGilio had pointed to Savage Son as possible material for a third season, calling the novel one of the most adrenaline-pueled in the saga. He also hinted at the possibility of exploring other stories, including that of Tom Reece, James’s father, and developing further spin-offs focused on the audience’s most beloved characters. The idea, therefore, is to build a narrative universe capable of going far beyond the original series. The current project could represent a step in that direction, though it remains to be seen what form Prime Video decides to give it.
A Franchise Growing Bigger on Prime Video
Since its 2022 debut, The Terminal List has built a narrative universe that Amazon has already begun expanding. In addition to the original series, the franchise includes The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, a prequel arriving in 2025 with Taylor Kitsch again in the role of Ben Edwards, a former Navy SEAL and CIA operative. The second season of the main series arrived on Prime Video on October 21, 2026, adapting Jack Carr’s second novel, True Believer. With Savage Son, James Reece’s story could continue to follow the books, though not necessarily through a new season. Peter Friedlander, head of Global Television, confirmed Prime Video’s commitment to the project, stating: “Jack Carr’s work has managed to captivate the audience in a way that demonstrates the strength of his storytelling and the extraordinary dedication of Chris Pratt and the entire team in every episode. The Terminal List franchise continues to find success, and Savage Son will bring the story into its most intense chapter.”
