Christina Applegate Discovers She Was Misdiagnosed After Five Years of Treatment

A diagnosis can change your life, for better or for worse. Christina Applegate has spent the last five years fighting against the depression triggered by the discovery that she suffered from multiple sclerosis, something she has spoken about many times and has sought ways to carry on. The diagnosis led her down strange paths, and since then she has been in treatment, striving to get through each day with a bit more strength than the previous one.

For better or worse, she has learned something that has altered the way she views things. The actress revealed in the latest episode of her personal podcast, in a two-part special, that she has been misdiagnosed all this time. Despite the medical problems she endures and the brain injuries she has, Applegate does not suffer from multiple sclerosis, and this has marked a before-and-after in her mental health.

After years feeling trapped by the depression caused by a diagnosis, Christina Applegate revises her diagnosis

Back to Square One

Applegate’s problems date back to 2021, when in August she publicly revealed that she had undergone several medical tests and had been determined to suffer from multiple sclerosis. Her health had worsened notably in the past years, and a range of tests pointed to the disease as the origin of her brain-damage issues.

The treatments forced her to withdraw from the world of cinema and television, and she has spent this time trying to improve her health. However, about “a couple of years” ago one of her doctors wanted to change the treatment after seeing that there was no notable improvement. Noticing that the results of certain cells did not change, her case began to be studied more deeply. With current technology she has officially received the clarification that she does not suffer the disease.

Complicated Recovery

Hearing this news has been difficult for Applegate. “You don’t get the diagnosis corrected and suddenly you improve. I haven’t improved. In some respects I am worse,” she reveals on her podcast. “I feel like I have let everyone down. There was a reason, a damn reason, why every day was a nightmare. And now I have no reason at all, and that is very unsettling and confusing”.

Although the actress has discovered that this is not MS, she would still be investigating the cause of her health status with the proper experts.
