On Disney+, the spooky season has offered the audience a new magical TV series: it is titled Coven Academy: The Witch Academy and stars Malina Weissman, an actress also known for her roles in A Series of Unfortunate Events and in the film A Cat’s Life. And it was precisely this latter project that weighed in on the future of Coven Academy: will there be a second season?
Coven Academy: The Witch Academy 2 Will It Happen? Malina Weissman’s Hopes
Available on streaming via Disney+ from October 2, 2026, Coven Academy: The Witch Academy is set in a magical school in New Orleans, where teenagers endowed with magical abilities attend classes. Among them is Briar Roberts, a young New Yorker who discovers her true nature and becomes a student there. In addition to having to learn how to manage her powers, Briar soon finds herself drawn into a love triangle, taking an interest in Jake and Ollie.
Having immediately captured the audience’s attention, Coven Academy could continue with a second season? Although it may still be a little early to tell, Malina Weissman spoke about the future of the fantasy series in a Variety interview, expressing a desire for new episodes and for a very specific reason:
I’m incredibly excited for the second season. In every series, in the first season, you get to know the characters, the world, the emotional baggage that each person carries. In the second season, you have the chance to live it fully and see what happens. I hope Briar continues to be uncertain about the two boys. I hope she keeps discovering herself and I hope the three girls have an absolute blast. The show is about identity, so I hope each of them keeps making decisions, right or wrong, and sees where all of this will lead.
Apart from Briar, Coven Academy has spotlighted Sasha (Jordan Leftwich), who can manipulate minds, and Tegan, played by Ora Duplass, who can instead control time. Jake, a powerful and mysterious warlock, is one of Briar’s two suitors and is portrayed by Malachi Barton, while Ollie is a vampire played by Louis Thresher. Rounding out the main cast is Tiffani Thiessen, who portrays the headmistress Emma Graves. Regarding a potential second season, there are several twists to tackle and threads to untangle, such as Briar’s father, a piece of information known only to the creator Tim Ferdele.
