Crazy Rich Asians will continue to tell its story on the small screen. HBO has announced the order of a sequel series to the 2018 comedy directed by Jon M. Chu, known in Italy as Crazy & Rich. Constance Wu and Henry Golding will return to portray the lead couple, Rachel Chu and Nick Young, and they will be joined by the rest of the cast, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh, again in the roles of Eddie and Eleanor, Nick’s cousin and his stern mother.
Crazy Rich Asians continues with a TV series: statements
Written by the film’s co-screenwriter Adele Lim and produced by her as an executive producer together with Chu and Kevin Kwan, the author of the novels on which the film and the series are based, Crazy Rich Asians is surprisingly presented as a drama. “It’s a stylish homecoming, worthy of Crazy Rich Asians!” Lim explained in a press release. “This series is the sequel we’ve all been waiting for: instead of a single film, we have eight episodes to delve into the characters and the universes born from Kevin Kwan’s brilliant pen. It has been a dream to work with the original creative team, relying on the support and vision of HBO and Warner Bros. Television. Our group of writers is firing on all cylinders and we can’t wait to share what we’ve conceived.”
Chu added: “Eight years ago, Crazy Rich Asians changed my life and I had the opportunity to bring it to life alongside the most creative and entertaining group of people I’ve ever known. Since then, the cast members have become film stars, superheroes, artists capable of filling stadiums, and even an Oscar winner; therefore, bringing everyone back together feels like coming home. It has been incredible to see audiences weave this film into their lives, from mahjong nights to it becoming the ultimate movie to watch on a plane; I can’t wait to share what comes next. At last I can answer the question I’ve been asked almost every day for eight years: ‘When will the sequel arrive?’
