Bad news for fans of Daredevil: Rebirth. The Marvel series is gearing up to close with the third season that will officially be the last. The news had been circulating for several hours but became official when it was announced that showrunner Dario Scardapane has left (to his dismay) the series, while work on the new season is still underway.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Scardapane has ended his relationship with Marvel Studios after his contract expired. The studio decided not to renew it. The news is particularly unexpected because filming in New York is now almost finished and, at present, it has not been announced who will take his place to complete the work on the third season, currently in post-production. Marvel Studios, for now, has not issued official comments on the decision. Scardapane had joined the project during the creative review process of the first season, stepping into the show’s leadership after the stoppage caused by the Hollywood strikes of 2023. Subsequently he had an even more central role in the second season.
The decision to end Daredevil: Rebirth with the third season comes despite Marvel Television’s previous plans. Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, had in fact expressed the intention of turning the series into an annual Disney+ event, modeled after traditional networks. Meanwhile, however, it appears that the second season recorded a significant drop in viewers on the platform, a factor that fits into Marvel Television’s recent decisions on its own projects.
Another Ending Following the Netflix Series
With the third season, Daredevil: Rebirth will therefore reach the same number of seasons as the previous live-action series of Daredevil, produced by Netflix. The Disney+ production has brought back numerous familiar actors to the screen, starting with Charlie Cox in the role of Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. The cast also saw the return of Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Jon Bernthal and Wilson Bethel, while the second season unexpectedly added Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage.
The third season, scheduled for 2027, had already drawn fans’ attention thanks to the events of the second-season finale and some photos from the New York set that hinted at several possible returns. It is hoped that it will give the series the ending it deserves (since the adventures of Daredevil could always continue in other Marvel projects).
