The third season of Daredevil: Rebirth is currently in post-production, but its fate has already been clarified. Fans have recently learned that Marvel Studios will not press forward beyond this point, meaning the adventures of Matt Murdock and the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen will wrap up with the upcoming season, which is slated to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2027. Reflecting on what lies ahead, Matthew Lillard offered a brief yet exciting update, hinting that the final season will be “explosive.”
Daredevil: Rebirth 3, Matthew Lillard previews a season that “will surprise everyone, exceeding all expectations”
Exactly like all the fans of Daredevil: Rebirth, Matthew Lillard had to take the news when he learned Marvel Studios would not be telling any further adventures of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, but he nevertheless urged fans not to abandon the third season, because “it will surprise everyone, exceeding all expectations.”
The second season closed a circle with Wilson Fisk now far from political power in New York, forced into exile, while Matt Murdock, having confessed to being Daredevil, was arrested and will have to face justice in the upcoming episodes. In the meantime, the enigmatic Mr. Charles, portrayed by Matthew Lillard, will have his own big challenge, as hinted by the actor himself.
Introduced during the second season, Mr. Charles interacted primarily with Fisk to establish an illegal operation at the New York harbor following orders from Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. It turns out that Charles is a CIA agent who works for Valentina and recruits people with superpowers, such as Luke Cage, to carry out covert missions. At the end of the second season, we see Mr. Charles recruiting Bullseye, who will likely have a role in the third and final season.
In the meantime, Matthew Lillard faced Marvel Studios’ cancellation, admitting he was saddened by the news, but not worried about the third season: “I think it depends on Dario Scardapane, who is an excellent storyteller. I think this season will be explosive and will surprise everyone, exceeding all expectations,” he told ComicBook. He then commented on Marvel’s decision: “I am also very sad. It was a shocking decision. I think the cast is incredible, as is the storytelling, and I am disappointed by the choice.”
The next chapter will be the last, but it will deliver to the audience a long-awaited reunion of the Defenders, already hinted at during the second season with the return of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. We also know that the third season will bring Iron Fist back into action, reuniting the gang.
