As you may know, it has been announced Days of Thunder 2, where Tom Cruise will reprise the role of the NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, with Anne Hathaway as the new female lead, in place of Nicole Kidman, who stood by him in 1990. Naturally many things have changed since then, not only on the professional front but also on the romantic side, and yet according to a radar Online source Nicole’s involvement isn’t entirely ruled out… and it would not be viewed unfavorably by Tom himself.
Nicole Kidman Not Out of the Question for Days of Thunder 2, Anne Hathaway Not Excluded
There is no doubt that Anne Hathaway is the female co-lead of Days of Thunder 2 alongside Tom Cruise, under the direction of Jonathan Levine. The original film Days of Thunder, directed in 1990 by the late Tony Scott, was, however, the catalyst for Cruise’s meeting with Nicole Kidman, who would soon move on, with a divorce arriving in 2001. In short, it is fairly natural to imagine that seeing Cruise and Kidman together in the same frame, in this setting, would be striking to us as well as to them. Yet, according to Radar Online, Tom would not be opposed to the idea: rather it is Nicole who would need to cast aside her reservations to appear in the film, even if not in Hathaway’s role. The source says: “As for the contractual matter, it wouldn’t be a difficult path. Apparently Tom would like it, but everything depends entirely on Nicole. […] Over the last decade she has focused on working with women as directors and producers. […] For her, it would be a big leap now to enter a male-led film like Days of Thunder 2, from a director within Seth Rogen’s comedic circle. Even if she were only to do a cameo in a single scene, it should be creatively perfect for her. […] We’re no longer in 1990; Nicole is a producer in her own right now, you can’t force her to take a job she doesn’t want to do.”
