When you’re an adolescent, you long for nothing more than to become grown up, only to discover that, although nothing could be more natural, it’s also the most challenging thing. Five twenty-something friends, Samir, Billie, Issa, Anton, and Paul Baker, find themselves living together in Queens, New York. All of them share a goal: to become good adults, even though none of them truly understands what that means. After all, the five don’t even know how to navigate the real world. So these protagonists have to deal with precarious work and the anxiety of climbing the career ladder, dating apps and the need to love and be loved in return, the first wrinkles and the fear of aging. The twenty-somethings of Adults have quirky ideas and make questionable choices, but if there is one thing they excel at, it is at least being excellent friends. This Disney+ series is a sharp FX comedy that aims to give us as realistic a portrait as possible of Generation Z; if you enjoyed it and now you’re looking for another series about the complex transition into adulthood, here are a few options that could be just right for you.

Girls
Hannah Horvath, a curious aspiring writer, and her three twenty-something friends — the perfectionist Marnie, the nonconformist Jessa and the naive Shoshanna — work hard to make their way in Brooklyn. After her parents cut off her funds, Hannah finds herself facing new and heavy difficulties. Between disappointing jobs and disastrous dating, she gives her best to not give up and to become the adult she has always dreamed of being. Girls is a 2012 TV series that, like Adults, offers a perfect — or perhaps better described as imperfect — portrait of American youth. Six seasons and 62 episodes you can watch on HBO Max.
English Teacher
Evan Marquez is a gay teacher who practices at the high school in Austin, Texas. Evan has to work hard to manage his personal dramas and the tough school life, among quirky colleagues and Gen Z students, to whom he has something very important to teach beyond the textbook pages. English Teacher is a 2024 TV series characterized by the same irreverent humor and focused on the cultural contradictions of modern society. Two seasons and 18 episodes that you can catch on Disney+.
New Girl
Jess is an eccentric and sentimental teacher who moves into a loft in Los Angeles after the painful end of a romance. Jess finds herself sharing the apartment with three single guys — Nick, Schmidt and Winston — with whom she forms a strong friendship. New Girl is a 2011 TV series similar to Adults because here too we have a group of young friends trying to figure out how to survive in the adult world, which they have access to only recently. Seven seasons and 146 episodes you can catch on Disney+.
