If, during your forays across streaming platforms in search of something interesting to watch, you have stumbled upon Alice and Steve, and you were pleasantly surprised by this quirky, all-British tale of a friendship tested by an improbable romance, you’ll be glad to know that Disney+ has renewed the comedy for a second season.
Alice and Steve: What the TV series is about
Created by Sex Education’s screenwriter Sophie Goodhart, Alice and Steve was presented by the streaming service as “the most screwball romantic comedy ever.” Nicola Walker (The Split) and the 12-time Emmy-nominated Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows, Flight of the Conchords) play the title characters Alice and Steve, two best friends whose relationship becomes dramatically complicated (and hilariously so) when Izzy, Alice’s 26-year-old daughter, played by Yali Topol Margalith (The Auschwitz Tattooist), first goes to bed and then begins a relationship with the far more adult Steve. Alice tries in every possible way to put an end to the relationship, but unfortunately for her, Steve is more than ready to push back, so what began as a perfect friendship turns into a full-blown feud.
Alice and Steve has enjoyed considerable public and critical success, winning, among other awards, the Best Series prize at the Cannes International Series Festival 2026. Goodhart said she was “enthusiastic” about the renewal, adding that “no one is ready for what will happen, especially not Alice and Steve.” Petra Fried, from Clerkenwell Films, stated: “We love Alice and Steve, both the series and, of course, the two central characters at the heart of Sophie’s brilliant, chaotic, funny and bold exploration of friendship and love. We are thrilled to bring it back to TV for a second season and cannot wait for audiences to discover what Sophie has in store for our favorite frienemies.”
