Don’t Dream It, Be It: Dream Double Feature in Theaters to Celebrate Tim Curry

In the wake of Tim Curry’s death, which occurred on last August 25, newspapers, magazines, and media outlets of various kinds were roughly divided into two camps: one spoke of the actor as the screen’s first Pennywise (he had portrayed the diabolical clown in the 1990 miniseries that for the first time adapted Stephen King’s “IT”); the other instead referred to the first role that made Curry not only famous but immortal in the memories of fans, namely Frank’n’Further in the most cult of cult movies in the history of cinema, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
And it’s no coincidence, then, that, to commemorate Curry, the Cineteca di Bologna has decided to bring back to the cinema from October 26 not only this latest, grand title, but also the documentary Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror, which explores the extraordinary legacy of the film with Curry and contains one of the last public testimonies.
On the myth and the importance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, an extraordinary and irreverent anthem to freedom (also sexual) in every one of its manifestations, still timeless today, with legions of followers who still attend masked screenings around the world, it would be almost redundant to express it: here we had wandered into it a bit more.
Less known is the documentary, which was directed by Linus O’Brien, son of Richard O’Brian, author of the original musical The Rocky Horror Show and performer of the role of Riff Raff in the film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but we had discussed it more extensively in this article.
What matters is that a double bill like the one composed of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror appears decidedly appetizing and not to be missed.
