Denis Villeneuve is about to conclude his Dune trilogy with Dune: Part Three, once again starring Timothée Chalamet, but how long will the film set to hit theaters on December 16 actually be? The reveal of the official runtime comes from two reliable sources, the American chain AMC and the Irish Film Classification Office, so we can reasonably trust that the news is accurate. How does the length of the third installment compare to that of the films that came before it?
Dune Part Three, official duration of the third chapter of the saga
Dune: Part Three runs 151 minutes, i.e., 2 hours and 31 minutes, so Denis Villeneuve’s farewell to his successful venture of adapting the classic science-fiction saga by Frank Herbert will not rely on an excessive running time to close the curtain. Moreover, as has already been stated, Warner Bros. has no intention of stopping the_books from reaching the big screen, even if Villeneuve steps back from the subsequent chapters. Commercial success should not undermine these plans, even now that Warner has been acquired by Paramount Skydance. To put it in perspective, in duration this film approaches the first chapter Dune (2021) at 155 minutes and is about a quarter of an hour shorter than Dune: Part Two (2024) at 166.
Dune: Part Three, which adapts the second novel of the cycle “Dune Messiah” (1969), also draws material from the third “Children of Dune” (1976). We hope in a mode that does not disorient or inflame the writer’s long-standing fandom. The cast also includes Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, Ida Brooke and Isaach De Bankolé. The first two installments have grossed $410,678,000 (on a $165 million budget, during a very challenging period in the midst of the pandemic) and $714,844,000 (on a $190 million cost). There is reason to believe that Paul Atreides will give a run for their money to Avengers: Doomsday this Christmas.
