Dylan Dog Horror Show: Debuts October 28 at Teatro Eliseo for 40th Anniversary of the Nightmare Investigator

If cinema has failed to provide us with a decent and faithful version of the Nightmare Investigator, it is up to the theatre to give the mythic Dylan Dog the right dimension. Created by Tiziano Sclavi and arriving on September 26, 1986 on the pages of the eponymous comic from Sergio Bonelli Editore, Dylan Dog has been part of our culture for four decades and has captivated millions of readers. What could be better to celebrate it than immersing oneself in the atmospheres that only theatre can conjure, thanks to the magic of staging and the brilliance of actors? Over these forty years Dylan Dog has faced horror without denying it; instead, he has chosen to observe, question, and tell it. And it is precisely from this perspective that the thread of the celebrations shaping these months takes form and will culminate with Dylan Dog stepping onto the stage.

Dylan Dog Horror Show at the Eliseo Theatre

Forty years have passed since that mythical first issue of Dylan Dog, L’alba dei morti viventi, written by Tiziano Sclavi, drawn by Angelo Stano and with the cover by Claudio Villa, launching a phenomenon that has accompanied us for forty years and has fascinated millions of readers. What could be better to celebrate it than to immerse oneself in the real atmospheres that only theatre can create, thanks to the magic of stagecraft and the skill of superb actors? In these forty years Dylan Dog has traversed horror without denying it; he has chosen instead to observe, question, and tell it. And it is precisely from this viewpoint that the thread guiding these celebrations takes shape and will culminate with Dylan Dog on the stage.

In this brand-new show, Veronika, as captivating as she is mysterious, a client, brings a new case to Dylan Dog. The Indagatore dell’Incubo, who has always faced puzzling and unsettling enigmas, horrors from this world and others, must follow a path that will inevitably force him to confront the ghosts of his past. The most important figures from his personal history will resurface: the women of his life (Anna Never, Morgana, Lillie Connolly, Bree Daniels), his nemesis, Xabaras, and his longtime friends Groucho, Inspector Bloch, and Madame Trelkovski.

The musical portion is entrusted to a power trio consisting of Paolo Spaccamonti on guitar, Luca Cavina on bass, and Jacopo Battaglia on drums. Among the musical selections are works by Scott Walker, Nine Inch Nails and Arcade Fire. For the occasion, the Eliseo Theatre, a historic Roman venue, has transformed its foyer into an experiential space dedicated to the visual and narrative universe of the Indagatore dell’Incubo. Among posters, panels, mirrors, and iconic phrases, the visual imagination surrounding the theatre has already captured social media! Pre-sales are open on TicketOne.
