For decades the face of Grey’s Anatomy, one of television’s most beloved series, Ellen Pompeo will swap the doctor’s white coat for a nurse’s uniform. After reducing her commitments on ABC’s medical drama, the actress signs with Hulu to star in Not a Sound, a new dramatic series produced by the 11-time Emmy winner David E. Kelley, the creator of Ally McBeal and numerous other cult programs (Chicago Hope, The Practice – Professione avvocati, Boston Legal, Big Little Lies, the more recent Presumed Innocent and The Lincoln Lawyer, among many others).
Not a Sound: The Plot of the New TV Series with Ellen Pompeo
Based on the eponymous novel by Heather Gudenkauf, adapted by Matthew Tinker and Annakate Chappell, with whom Kelley had previously collaborated on Big Sky, and directed by Azazel Jacobs (Sorry for Your Loss), Not a Sound follows the story of Amelia Winn (Pompeo), an emergency room nurse who, after losing her hearing in a devastating hit-and-run incident, has fallen from grace. When she and her loyal service dog discover the body of a former colleague, the event drags Amelia into a deadly mystery that could finally reveal the truth about the accident that changed her life.
Not a Sound marks Pompeo’s second foray into television after dialing back her involvement with Grey’s Anatomy, which is set to return this fall with its 23rd season. It follows Good American Family, in which she portrayed a mother who, after adopting a girl with a rare form of dwarfism, begins to doubt her age and identity. Initially conceived as a miniseries, Good American Family was recently transformed into an anthology series, with the second season centering on the Lorena Bobbitt case. Pompeo will not be part of the cast but will continue to contribute as an executive producer. She will also be part of the production team on Not a Sound.
