It seems that getting work in Hollywood remains as hard as ever, even after you’ve just taken part in one of the year’s most notable works. Elliot Page has spoken about his past, present, and future in the film industry, and what stands out most is the lack of offers arriving after his standout appearance in ‘The Odyssey’.
The opportunity to discuss his case came in an interview dedicated to his career and how it has changed over twenty years, since he burst onto the scene with ‘Juno’. His interviewer remarks that offers should be pouring in at this moment, but Page denies it with a laugh: “No, Kevin, I’m not [receiving offers]. Let’s say that, if someone wanted to call me…” In response to such a remark, the host, incredulous, presses him and Elliot does not elaborate much further. “I’d love to do solid work. That’s what I enjoy doing.”
Times change
It’s hard to imagine Elliot Page hitting a minor skid in finding his next role when, back in the day, he was one of the most popular figures in his moments. In fact, in 2008 he was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress for his work in ‘Juno’, which led him to secure major roles throughout his career in films such as ‘Inception’ and in series like ‘The Umbrella Academy’, during which he completed his gender transition officially.
It’s a change that has not gone unnoticed by Page. “I was seen in one way before, and now it’s different. I think the reasons are pretty obvious: it’s because I’m Canadian.” The joke about his nationality ties into his transition from woman to man, which is far from a real issue for him. He feels more comfortable in his body than before and adds: “I feel like I could be making some of my best work now“.
Heading to the Oscars
Page is currently having trouble getting calls for new roles, but that may change after the 2027 Academy Awards ceremony. With or without a nomination for the actor, the potential nods for ‘The Odyssey’ will highlight the outstanding work done by the entire production team. That will likely attract the attention of some directors who recognize the potential he holds, as Tom Holland has already shown by moving forward on his next project.
