It is with the news that Fabio Grossi, an actor, director and playwright, died on August 24 in Rome, the city where he was born 68 years ago. His career unfolded with uninterrupted continuity across theater, cinema, and television. It was precisely on the stage that he made his debut with L’uomo, la bestia e la virtù by Pirandello, directed by Edmo Fenoglio, and he continued his theatrical career with directors such as Luca Ronconi, Alberto di Stasio, and Daniele Costantini. In cinema, he arrived as a character actor, taking on numerous comedies (often with a sexy edge) from the early 1980s, including Mia moglie torna a scuola, L’onorevole con l’amante sotto il letto, Pierino contro tutti, I fichissimi (with Carlo Vanzina he would work with again in SPQR – 2000 e ½ anni fa), Teste di quoio, I carabbimatti, and W la foca. He was also directed by Nanni Loy in Scugnizzi, Renzo Martinelli in Vajont, by Daniele Costantini in the adaptation of his play Fatti della banda della Magliana, and Paolo Sorrentino in L’uomo in più. His last appearance on the big screen dates back to 2024, in the debut feature film by Mimmo Verdesca, Per il mio bene.
Also on television, Grossi worked frequently, appearing in programs of various genres, sitcoms and popular fiction, including Le ragazze di piazza di Spagna, Commesse 2, La dottoressa Giò, and Un ciclone in famiglia. From 2000 he had devoted himself predominantly to theatrical directing, often guiding Leo Gullotta in dramas by Shakespeare and Pirandello. He also authored the text of Ecce Homo and Figlio unico di madre vedova, inspired by the tragedy of Oedipus and Jocasta.
Since 1980 he had been the life partner of Leo Gullotta, whom he joined in a civil ceremony in 2019. Above all to him and to his friends and colleagues, who today mourn the premature loss of a man of talent and with great depth of humanity, goes our heartfelt and sincere thoughts. The funeral of Fabio Grossi will take place on Thursday, August 27 at 12 in the Parish of the Nativity on Via Gallia 162; those wishing to bid him farewell beforehand may do so from 9:20 to 11:30 in the mortuary room of San Giovanni hospital.
