Over the past year, on the ice rink we have witnessed the birth of the most intense and passionate loves. First Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, the stars of Crave’s Heated Rivalry. Then Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham, at the center of Prime Video’s Off Campus. Now Netflix is giving it a try with the series Icebreaker, adapted from a famous romance novel, Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. The project has reached a pivotal moment in its development: the casting of the leads. The streaming service has announced that they will be Daisy Jelley (Geek Girl) and the newcomer Connor Simos to portray Anastasia ‘Stassie’ Allen and Nate Hawkins, the two central characters of the story.
Icebreaker: the plot of the Netflix series
Adapted by the screenwriter of Gossip Girl and Riverdale Amanda Lasher, Icebreaker — the first novel in the Maple Hills series, set in the fictional California university town of the same name — tells the story of Anastasia Allen, a figure skater whose goal is to win Olympic gold. Everything changes when Anastasia is forced to share the skating rink with Nate Hawkins, the captain of her hockey team, equally determined to become a professional. Despite the icy temperatures on the ice, the passion between Anastasia and Nate is undeniable. Will ambition or attraction make the difference?
At the moment it is not clear whether, as with Heated Rivalry and Off Campus, Icebreaker will also involve the protagonists from the other novels of the series, either from the start or later. Maple Hills is a trilogy focused on the love stories among some students at the local university. Wildfire, the second novel, follows Aurora Roberts, a impulsive girl who loves adventures, and Russ Callaghan, more reserved and reflective, and how their purely physical relationship on the same summer field becomes complicated when they really begin to get to know each other. The third, Daydream, centers on Halle Jacobs and Henry Turner, she a book enthusiast with the dream of becoming a writer, but shy and inexperienced in relationships, and he the captain of the hockey team, struggling to balance sport, study and personal expectations. When Halle agrees to help him with some academic problems, a friendship between them gradually grows into something romantic.
