Created by Sheryl J. Anderson and drawn from the novels of Sherryl Woods, Il colore delle magnolie has entertained Netflix viewers since 2020, telling the story of three friends who support each other as they face romance crises, family challenges, and work-related difficulties. Brooke Elliott, for example, has played Dana Sue Sullivan since the first season, a career-minded woman at the helm of a local restaurant business, and it was she who confronted Netflix’s cancellation.

Il colore delle magnolie returned to streaming last summer for a fifth, and apparently final, season. A decision that surprised fans as much as the main cast, starting with Brooke Elliott, who broke her silence on the platform’s decision. Via Instagram, the actress addressed fans who have always supported the TV series: “To everyone who loved us, we love you just as much. I will miss the cast and crew very much. A toast to the wonderful Sweet Magnolias… one last time.” The actress accompanied the message with a photo of herself holding a Margarita, a clear nod to the show’s traditional Margarita Nights for the stars.

Also Justin Bruening took to social media to bid farewell to Sweet Magnolias: “To the cast and crew: I’ll miss you all, each and every one of you! It’s thanks to you that every day I went to work didn’t feel like work, because it was pure joy. We truly had something special that raised the bar for the future and set us apart. I’m grateful and honored to have met you.” He also revealed that saying goodbye to the cast and crew is “the hardest part of all this.”
When Netflix shared the news of the cancellation, the official Instagram account of Sweet Magnolias posted a reply: “All great adventures must end someday, and here, dear friends, ours ends. Sweet Magnolias is now complete with five seasons available for streaming on Netflix. To our extraordinary cast and crew: you are Serenity. This show wouldn’t be what it is without your hard work, dedication, and love… be proud of what you’ve accomplished.” Leading the lead cast were also JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Heather Headley.
