The family grows, this time in the living room of your home. The car-and-action franchise par excellence, Fast & Furious, is gearing up for a new challenge: the world of television. Deadline has reported that a series based on the universe of the films has already received the green light to begin production, though no further details have been released about potential stars or plot specifics.
The first season of the series, still without an official title, will be broadcast in the United States through the Peacock streaming platform. That means in Spain we’ll have to wait to watch it via SkyShowtime, which is our path to access the content offered by the American network.
The family grows bigger
Truth be told, this is the second time that ‘Fast & Furious’ tests the dynamics of television series. The first time was almost an experiment to test the streaming terrain and to try to lure a younger audience than usual: the animated series ‘Fast & Furious: Spy Racers’, which premiered on Netflix with a total of six seasons. That said, how it fits within the canon of the story is a topic for discussion in its own right.
The announcement of this TV series fits with the franchise’s eleventh movie, ‘Fast Forever’, planned for release in 2028. The installment will bring a close to the storylines left open by ‘Fast & Furious X’ back in 2023, with some rather wild ideas in mind: Vin Diesel has already teased ideas for ‘Fast 11’, and he wanted to include footballer Cristiano Ronaldo in it.

One does not retire from the family
We don’t know how the franchise’s status quo will look after the 2028 film, but the series could mean that not all is lost for the racers. Vin Diesel himself will serve as executive producer of the first season and will spearhead the story, alongside showrunners Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman. The wait to see the finished product may be long, but hopefully it will be as entertaining as the main films themselves.
