Just over 90,000 euros and 6,000 admissions were enough to make the difference: on Ferragosto day, after two weeks of dominance, Spider-Man Brand New Day had to yield to Odyssey, handing Christopher Nolan’s film back the top spot at the Italian box office that had belonged to it in the latter half of July.
According to official data provided by Cinetel, for the film with Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus, the earnings on the single day of August 15 were 529,223 euros (equivalent to 54,808 admissions), while the earnings for the film with Tom Holland in the role of Peter Parker were 435,311 euros (equivalent to 48,020 admissions). As for the total gross, Odyssey reaches 47,805,649 euros (5,719,162 admissions), surpassing by about 15 million those of Spider-Man Brand New Day which has now reached the notable sum of 31,072,340 euros, with 3,861,016 admissions.
Also for Ferragosto day at the cinema, in third place in the box-office ranking we find The End of Oak Street, the science-fiction thriller directed by David Robert Mitchell starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, which grossed 125,007 euros, nearing 500,000 euros in total, while the fourth position is occupied by Robin Hood – The Price of Blood with Hugh Jackman.
Turning to the films in the first two positions of the chart, we can summarize how they are faring on a global level. The latest worldwide box-office data show an undisputed dominance of Spider-Man Brand New Day, which has already reached and surpassed 1.7 billion dollars (740 million of which in the United States alone), while Nolan’s Odyssey sits at around 1.1 billion.
