Actor Edward Bluemel (A Discovery of Witches, My Lady Jane) makes his first appearance in the iconic role of Hercule Poirot, the famed detective born from the pen of Agatha Christie, in the BBC and BritBox series Hercule, slated to hit screens next year.

Written by Benji Walters (The Leopard) and partly directed by BAFTA winner Jonny Campbell (In the Flesh), the series, currently filming in Liverpool, is described as “a thorough study of Hercule as a man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars.” Hercule surveys three of Christie’s early tales with a forensic eye, while at the same time tracing the budding friendship between Hercule and Scotland Yard’s Captain Arthur Hastings, recounting his initial meetings with James Japp, and introducing a distinctive adversary…
The remainder of the cast includes Henry Ashton (How They Kill the Good Girls), James D’Arcy (NCIS: Tony & Ziva), Calvin Demba (Supacell), Phil Dunning (Smoggie Queens), Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), Tamsin Greig (The Headless and Tail-less Adventures of Dick Turpin), James Nesbitt (Escape), Guy Remmers (The Buccaneers), Rebecca Rittenhouse (Her Truth) and Mawaan Rizwan (Juice).

Executive producer James Prichard, of Agatha Christie Limited, added: “My father had the privilege of working with David Suchet for nearly 25 years, and now I am lucky enough to share the brilliant stories of my great-grandmother with a new generation of viewers. Edward Bluemel is an exceptionally talented actor and will be a superb addition to the long line of performers who have given life to this celebrated character, supported by Benji Walters’ refined scripts. I look forward to seeing Edward on screen as Hercule Poirot.”
