Föa: A Girl in Search of a Future – Interview with Director Margherita Ferrari and Gaia Ravina

An eighteen-year-old girl, eight months pregnant. The scorching summer heat strikes relentlessly in July 2001, in Genoa. She remains home alone as the protests against the G8 summit, soon erupting into violence begin just outside her home’s windows. A pivotal event for generations of Italian women and men, it forms the backdrop to the coming-of-age story of a young woman facing crucial choices and hopeful prospects in the directorial debut of Margherita Ferrari, Föa – There Once Was the Future, presented at Alice nella città on the occasion of the Rome Film Festival.

Originally conceived as a highly acclaimed short film, it has been reimagined and has now become a feature-length debut written by Anita Della Cioppa, Margherita Ferrari and Veronica Penserini, and produced by Paolo Sorrentino for Numero 10, among others. Starring Gaia Ravina, Gabriele Falsetta, Clara Tramontano, Iker Urgoiti, and with Elena Arvigo and Fulvio Pepe. The film will soon be released in cinemas distributed by PiperFilm.

We spoke about it in Rome with Margherita Ferrari and the lead actress Gaia Ravina in this video interview.
