Being part of a group as popular and famous as the Jonas Brothers has its advantages, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to hand you gigs for free. It’s something the group’s youngest member, Nick Jonas, learned the hard way, because Disney wanted him as a supporting lead in one of its biggest hits. There exists an alternate universe out there where the Kristoff character is voiced by him in ‘Frozen: The Kingdom of Ice’.
The story comes from the Jonas Brothers themselves, who revealed on their own podcast what happened to the younger brother and the big opportunity he missed. It happened on a special occasion because for this edition of the podcast the cast of ‘Frozen’ joined in, with the absence of Jonathan Groff, who lends his voice to Kristoff in the two installments already released.
No Snowmen for Him
On the occasion of D23, Nick sat down in the podcast with Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad, the trio of starring actors from the original film. This is where he reveals that, before the movie came out, he almost joined the cast alongside them. “I went for the role of Kristoff,” he reveals with a hint of shyness. “I arrived and they said: “Okay, what are you going to sing today?”. And I answered: “Oh, no idea”. They asked: “What do you mean, no idea?”.
Even without having prepared for the audition, Disney still wanted to give the actor a chance. His actions, however, only sunk him deeper in the mud. Jonas continues: ““Do you have the sheet music?”. And I replied: “No, no one told me I had to [prepare one]…”, so I simply asked: “Could you put on something…?”. I don’t know what I said, probably some musical theater song. And the audition was a disaster. It was horrible”. No need to imagine it, Nick.
Missed Opportunity
The anecdote has been taken with laughter and a bit of mockery on the podcast, with Bell pointing out that that’s why they “shouldn’t have given him the role.” The truth is that for the actor it would have been fantastic to be able to take part in one of Disney’s most celebrated animated classics of this century, but he didn’t need it either. Just a few days ago he released ‘Camp Rock 3’, his latest film, so the singer seems to be doing well.
