Many stars of Game of Thrones have confessed not to have revisited their work in Westeros. Maisie Williams, for example, has spoken about a split relationship with her performance in the acclaimed TV series drawn from the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin and she considers the last seasons to be “embarrassing.” But why?

Back on the big screen with Love & Spells 2, where she portrays Antonia, the daughter of Sally Owens, Maisie Williams recalled her long stretch on Game of Thrones, during which she played the brave Arya Stark for eight seasons, one of the audience’s most beloved characters whose tumultuous journey ultimately paid off.
Maisie Williams is deeply connected to her character, but she admitted she finds it difficult to consider rewatching the final seasons of Game of Thrones for a very specific and understandable reason. While she has no trouble revisiting the early seasons, the latter ones feel far too recent to her. In a conversation with Collider, the actress confessed: “I love the early seasons, but those later ones are too embarrassing because they mirror too closely the person I am now. Some things I don’t even remember and I don’t recall where we shot them or other details.” It seems the early seasons are easier to rewatch because there is a greater distance between the past and the present.
After all, she was only 12 years old when she was chosen to play Arya Stark and 14 when the first season aired. The TV series concluded in 2019 with an eighth season, offering the actress and her character the chance to grow together along that journey. Once that experience ended, the actress moved into television, appearing in Two Weeks to Live, Pistol and The New Look, as well as onto the big screen in the casts of The New Mutants, The Owners and The Luckiest Man in America.
