Get Smart: John Mulaney in the New Film Reboot of the Hilarious Series with Don Adams

As with everything that has managed to blow half the world apart, both in cinema and on TV, also in Get Smart, the series with Don Adams that aired from 1965 to 1970, there are the fingerprints of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry as its writers. At a time when audiences were captivated by James Bond, what could be better than lampooning the mystique of the immaculate secret agent by choosing one who is bumbling and utterly unsuitable? The series even made it to the big screen and in 2008 there was already an attempted film reboot, Agent Smart – Casino Total, with Steve Carell in the lead. Now Warner Bros. has a new reboot in development whose star, according to Deadline, will be the comedian and voice actor John Mulaney.

Another Get Smart on the Way: What We Know

Honestly we are skeptical that a new cinematic version of Get Smart will reach the heights and the comedic tempo of the original: Don Adams had all the perfect traits to embody the character, alongside partners Edward Platt (the boss) and the beautiful Barbara Feldon (Agent 99). It was also an era more naïve in which slapstick humor drew big laughs. Who doesn’t remember the shoe/phone, the useless cone of silence, and the other malfunctioning gadgets that defined the CONTROL agents’ struggle against the evil KAOS? At the helm of the screenplay is someone who writes scripts on the fly for any film genre, Seth Grahame-Smith. We will see what comes out of it.
