Spanish cinema is about to be in for some welcome news. In addition to a sea of fantastic projects on the horizon we have one more to add with ‘Amor de Dios’, the first feature film directed at a wide audience by filmmaker Paula Palacios. The project is moving full steam ahead with the announcement that on August 25, 2026 the shoot wrapped, which has taken the production team through Madrid, Paris, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The feature-length film will assume a dramatic form and will be led by none other than Belén Rueda and Asier Etxeandia, both renowned actors who have won and been nominated by the Goya Awards. Add to that Palacios’ own accolades, who has already received significant recognitions for ‘Cartas Mojadas’ in 2020 and ‘Mi hermano Ali’ in 2024. The production is managed by Inefable Productions, and it will be distributed by Deep Com Roots.
Love for the Art
The story of ‘Amor de Dios’ centers on a flamenco school that bears the film’s title, which announces its definitive closure in troubled times. Sara Lanes, portrayed by Belén Rueda, returns from Paris with the aim of preventing the centre’s end as the place that inspired her to become the artist she is today, but her own physical and emotional problems will force her to make difficult decisions for the common good.
Lydya Palencia, the film’s producer, has highlighted the great opportunity of having a stellar cast like this. “Having top figures from the national cinematic scene such as Belén Rueda and Asier Etxeandia has been a luxury,” she stated in a press release. “Their way of preparing their roles, how they internalize the characters and make them their own, letting them grow, has led us to the conviction that no one better than them could have embodied Sara and Felipe. The chemistry between them has been maximum and has given our protagonists an incredibly believable verisimilitude.”
Future of Cinema
Even though the principal photography has wrapped, ‘Amor de Dios’ does not yet have an announced release date, with projected arrival somewhere in 2027. In the meantime, the same distributor is gearing up for the release of ‘Trinidad’, which hits our cinemas on December 4.
