Great News for Coven Academy: Just in Time for Halloween

There couldn’t have been a better moment than Halloween week to share this news: the supernatural teen drama Coven Academy: The Witch Academy will return to Disney+ with a second season. The renewal comes just three weeks after the debut of the inaugural cycle, accompanied by impressive numbers: 20.3 million hours viewed globally, in addition to 30 million views after the first episode was made available on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Moreover, during the debut weekend, Coven Academy was the most-watched streaming series among the 12-17 teenage audience and among the five most-watched titles overall.

Coven Academy: What is the TV series about?

In Coven Academy: The Witch Academy, the New York teenager Briar Roberts arrives at a mysterious school of magic in New Orleans to uncover the truth about her mother’s fate, but she finds herself in the midst of a conflict between witches and vampires. Along with her coven of apprentice witches, she must combat a dark and looming threat and navigate the dangers of a supernatural high school. And as the danger grows, a first forbidden love also blooms.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the creator Tim Federle (already behind the scenes at Disney+ on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) said he had long desired a project centered on witches: “I love this kind of setting and the possibilities offered by magic. Everything started naturally, during a dinner. And, since it wasn’t a pre-existing franchise—thus free from fan expectations or pressures tied to a title already known—it’s been really easy to write. I completed the first draft of the pilot episode in a single evening: I came home after that dinner, I wrote it, and from there it all began.”

The second season will continue the story of the first, which features Malina Pauli Weissman in the role of Briar, alongside the rest of the cast Malachi Barton, Jordan Leftwich, Ora Duplass, Louis Thresher and Tiffani Thiessen.
