The wait to see chaos incarnate will have to be stretched a little longer. The third installment of the Gremlins saga, which has been long-awaited by fans for years, needs a bit more time in the oven. Not too much, fortunately—only one more year of production. Warner Bros. has changed its official release date from November 17, 2027 to a more Halloween-friendly target, the upcoming October 6, 2028.
Yes, we have to wait more, but good things are worth it. The film remains in the hands of Chris Columbus, who wrote the original Gremlins screenplay and will now direct them in the absence of Joe Dante. An early version of the script also passed through his hands, though it is now credited to Hannah Marks. And yes, as we already hinted at the time, the good Steven Spielberg remains on board as executive producer to ensure it reaches a successful port.

In addition to this change there has also been movement in Warner Bros.’ release calendar to highlight, though not as momentous as the Gremlins news. It concerns an advance of ‘Dynamic Duo’, one of DC Comics’ animated projects that centers its story on an unlikely pair: Nightwing and Red Hood. Their past as Robin and Bruce Wayne’s adopted sons clashes with their current principles as superheroes, as they wrestle with which lines to cross and which not to cross.
The original release date for the feature was planned for September 22, 2028, but it has been moved up three months to avoid clashing with ‘Gremlins 3’. Warner Bros. now estimates it will arrive on June 30, 2028.
The Franchise Grows
The wait for ‘Gremlins 3’ is growing long. More than thirty-five years have passed since the release of ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’, which said goodbye to the public with a bolder and less terrifying approach than its predecessor. In the meantime we have had some projects, such as the animated series ‘Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai’, but the third installment has disappeared and reappeared in time several times. A little more wait won’t hurt us at this point.
