Relax, Gremlins 3 has to happen, but it seems Warner Bros. has revised its schedule, as indicated by the very first teaser just released. Perhaps the interlocking maneuver with Paramount Skydance is already underway, which now has full clearance to acquire the entire Warner Bros. world. The project for this third installment, long in development but officially unveiled only in 2025, remains alive with all the artists involved, but essentially it moves forward by almost an entire year, as the charming video below confirms. Let’s look at the new date announced by the studio, preparing to revisit the original duology, soon becoming a trilogy.

Gremlins 3 lands in our midst in 2028, the writers stay the same
Gremlins 3 is about to arrive for real, after forty-two and thirty-six years respectively from the prototype Gremlins (1984) and its box-office-weak but cinephile-beloved sequel Gremlins 2 – The New Batch (1990). It will no longer arrive in November 2027, as previously indicated, but in October 2028. Warner Bros. does not seem to intend to modify anything else about the project, so until proven otherwise Chris Columbus remains attached to direct: he wrote the script for the original, even though at the time he wasn’t yet a director and it was Joe Dante who directed the first two installments (though the second was written by Charlie Haas). After a career spanning Home Alone and Harry Potter, no one would deny Columbus the opportunity to sign off 100% on his work, much less Steven Spielberg, today as then an executive producer. Even though Columbus himself, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein drafted an early version of the screenplay, the final version seems to be in the hands of screenwriter and actress Hannah Marks.
Gremlins 3 carries a great legacy to live up to: consider that in 1984, alongside Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, both cases due to Spielberg’s intercession, it helped give birth in the USA to the censorship category “PG-13“, a middle ground between the family-friendly film and one with somewhat heavier content.
