Grey’s Anatomy Season 23: The Disaster Is Served — The Emergency That Will Open the New Season

The corridors of Grey Sloan Memorial, as is well known, are always quite crowded. But the official trailer for Grey’s Anatomy season 23 makes it clear right from the start that the new episodes won’t be peaceful at all. At the heart of the emergency opening the new season (arriving in the United States on October 15, 2026, while in Italy later on Disney+) there will be, in fact, a dramatic plane crash. Watch it below.

Grey’s Anatomy 23, le anticipazioni: Un nuovo disastro al Grey Sloan

In the clip, two planes collide on the runway, triggering a serious crash that will force Grey Sloan’s surgeons to step in to aid the victims. A new mass trauma, therefore, set to test doctors and residents. It isn’t the first time the series has confronted an airplane disaster, and considering the long history of spectacular emergencies tackled by the medical drama, it might not be the last either. This time, however, from the trailer images it appears that the protagonists are not directly involved in the incident: they will mainly have to manage the aftermath and treat the injured.

Another glimpse shown in the clip concerns Catherine Fox and Richard Webber. The two are engaged in the introduction of a new VIP floor inside the hospital. The innovation could represent another element of change for Grey Sloan, just as the facility must deal with the departures of some of its most important doctors.

Meredith Grey returns right at the worst moment

Among the most anticipated surprises in the trailer is also the return of Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo. The series’ longtime lead will indeed come back to the hospital, as she herself teases in the teaser, exactly “in time for the chaos.” Her return arrives at a particularly delicate moment for Grey Sloan. Showrunner Meg Marinis has explained that the hospital will have to find a new balance after the farewell of Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman. Their departure leaves Grey Sloan without two important, established surgeons, one of whom also held the role of Chief of Surgery. According to Marinis, the change won’t be easy and the new season will show precisely how the hospital will try to respond to this loss.

Ci sarà spazio anche per i sentimenti

The trailer doesn’t only hint at emergencies and dramatic moments. Between one medical case and another, the audience will also revisit some of the relationships that have gained space in the latest episodes. Jules Millin, played by Adelaide Kane, and Winston Ndugu, played by Anthony Hill, seem to still be very close. The teaser hints that their relationship will continue into the new season. Very different, at least for the moment, is Simone Griffith’s romantic situation. The resident appears to have found her own “McSteamy”: Lucas Adams, played by Niko Terho, makes an appearance as she steps out of the shower smiling and wishing her a “good morning.” We can infer that the pair has just spent a rather eventful night together.

The new season also promises to focus on the relationship between Jo Wilson and Atticus “Link” Lincoln. Meg Marinis has hinted that Jo will experience a period of personal discovery and growth, while reaffirming that the character will continue to demonstrate her fighting spirit. For Link, the challenge will be mainly that he has focused so much on his responsibilities that he has neglected his health and needs. The couple will thus need to find a way to talk openly about their respective pains.
